Surface Protection & Sealer

The preservation of surface integrity and the reduction of costly replacements are critical considerations in any maintenance strategy. It is important to note that there is no definitive method for permanently sealing any surface. Moreover, only a select few products currently available in the market are specifically designed to effectively seal or protect surfaces.

Impregnating sealers are often recommended for safeguarding absorbent surfaces against stains. Analogous to scotch guard, these sealers provide a layer of protection, allowing sufficient time for the surface to be properly cleaned before any staining agent can permeate it.

An impregnating sealer typically consists of a liquid that is either water-based, solvent-based, or silicone-based and contains micro-beads. The liquid solution carries the micro-beads into the open pores of the surface, enabling them to settle in place without obstructing the surface. The liquid solution usually sets within 72 hours, thereby permanently blocking the pores from absorbing stains and providing ample time for the removal of any staining agents.

However, it is important to note that impregnating sealers do not prevent etching, which can occur rapidly. They also do not prevent dirt from accumulating on the surface. Therefore, additional protective measures, such as coasters and mats, are necessary to prevent etching, sealer degradation, and burns.

In areas where water, cleaning products, and food are frequently used, regular maintenance is essential to ensure the continued effectiveness of the sealer. Wear and tear are inevitable, necessitating ongoing maintenance to uphold the protection provided.

Please note that our surface protection systems are not suitable for floor surfaces, except in the case of concrete and select terrazzo surfaces.
